Amanda Coolley Van Cooll works as a general labor construction worker in Alaska.

Name a work in construction and she’s done it all – from driving trucks to mixing cement.

“I love building things and working with my hands,” Amanda said when asked why she chose a career considered for men.

Amanda said that she got bored working in a bank, doing the same things everyday.

“In construction, there’s really no specific job description. The work is very physical and there’s always something different and new in every project,” Amanda said.

Amanda grew up a probinsyana and is accustomed to island life. She is confident that her experiences prepared her enough for the game.

For the challenges of Survivor Philippines Palau, Amanda did a lot of research and a lot of eating, too.

“I really had to gain some weight, because alam ko na papayat ako,” she added.

Carol Gementiza, strict teacher

She says: “My experience in life is being a mother of six children and a teacher whose first assignment as a public school teacher in the farthest barangay was a tough challenge considering that I will leave my family for a whole week everytime. Presently, my assignment is being in charge of the out-of-school adults including illiterates in the whole municipality. Halos lahat ng puwedeng lapitan para matulungan ang mga estudyante, ginagawa ko. Lahat ng trials sa family at work ko hinhaharap ko… I never say quit because I believe na hindi Niya ibibigay sa akin ang mga bagay na alam Niyang hindi ko kayang gawin. Tatag at determinasyon ang aking mga secret weapon.”

Carol Gementiza, a public school teacher for 20 years, is the oldest among the Castaways of Survivor Philippines: Palau.

She said that it was her children that encouraged and motivated her to audition for Survivor Philippines Palau

“Sabi nila sa akin, ang mga ginagawa ko ngayon ay para talagang bagay na bagay sa Survivor Philippines,” Carol said.

Her experience as a teacher taught her patience and perseverance, which would seem enough to make her fit to become a Castaway.

But Carol has also prepared herself to the fact that anything can happen in the game and would do everything she can to win the title of being the first Pinay Sole Survivor.

Charles Fernandez, raketista

He says: “Survivor ako sa lahat ng trials sa aking buhay. Nakapagtapos ako ng studying ko through sipag at tiyaga sa iba’t ibang raket and sa direct selling business.”

“Madaldal, malakas ang loob at makapal ang mukha.”

That’s how Charles of Dagupan city would best describe himself and he was able to make good use of those traits to achieve the things he wants in life.

At the age of 18, Charles decided to become independent and live on his own without asking support from his parents.

He has probably sold everything direct-selling business could offer – from shoes and clothes to cosmetics.

And because of his perseverance, persuasiveness and talkativeness Charles was able to finish studying at the University of Luzon in Dagupan City.

“Gusto kong ipakita sa mga kabataan na hindi sila dapat umasa sa mga magulang nila,” Charles asserted. “Tayo rin ang dapat kumilos para sa sarili natin.”

Charles said that he is a chameleon, always being able to adapt to any environment.

Cris Bolado, the lucky charm

This gentle giant is a journeyman in the PBA. He is considered lucky charm of every team he played for because those teams always won championships with him on the lineup. Alaska, Ginebra (Gordons), Purefoods, Pop Cola are some of the teams who benefited from his lucky charm. Cris is the darling of the crowd in the PBA.

He says: “Survivor ako dahil gusto kong maibalik ang mga nawala sa akin before, especially money. It’s sad but I know there will be hope na darating for me to build again all my dreams.”

Cris Bolado retired from professional basketball in 2003 because of injury.

Since then, he has kept himself busy coaching in basketball clinics all over the country.

Towering at 6 feet and 6 inches, Cris is the biggest among the second batch of Castaways.

Basketball has instilled in Cris the value of discipline and the dedication to always give 110 percent to the game.

“Kahit sa Survivor Philippines, 110 percent ang dapat na ibigay mo sa laro. Iba siya sa basketball dahil iba-iba ang gagawing challenges at hindi mo talaga malalaman kung ano ang mangyayari pero dapat ibigay mo pa rin lahat,” Cris said.

Cris aspires to bring back everything he has lost after his professional basketball career.

“Gusto kong magsimula ulit at ito ang nakita kong paraan kaya ako sumali sa Survivor Philippines Palau,” he concluded.

Echo Caceres, Spicy Bicolana

She say: “I’m a real survivor because I am an all-in-one package person who knows my strength and knows when to use it. I am not only physically strong and witty but I know how to deal with different people even in difficult situations and I am able to easily adapt to any environment whether city or island life, making it with full determination.”

As the eldest of seven siblings, Echo Caceres of Sto. Domingo, Albay had to become a breadwinner at a young age.

One of the major challenges her family faced was when their house was destroyed by typhoon Milenyo, while she was on training in Singapore.

Despite the challenges, Echo keeps a positive attitude by living her life to the fullest.

She tags herself as a “feisty call center agent”.

But what’s with her nickname?

“People have always called me “Echo” not only because of my distinct voice na ume-echo talaga, but because I have become a catalyst of change when I was a student,” Echo said. “I really deliver my opinions passionately.”

Jef Gaitan, the girl next door

Jef Gaitan is a pretty Filipina model who started her career at age 17. We can find her modeling for print ads, TV commercials, billboards and endorsements from a variety of consumer products. Jef Gaitan also did numerous TV Commercials, printads and billboards for Globe Telecom.

Crowned MS. Sta. Rosa 2003, a runner up for Ms. Teen Philippines 2004 and was awarded Miss Photogenic at the Mossimo Bikini Summit.

She says: “I’m a real Survivor because I survived on my own in real life. I took the risk to be independent at a very young age. I survived growing up in the city alone. I became a parent to myself and a teenager at the same time.”

Jef Gaitan may be sweet, friendly and approachable but her charming demeanor and her stunning looks should not be construed as signs of weakness.

“Palaban ako at matapang kapag kinakailangan,” the petite model said.

At 18, she decided to become truly independent and she stopped studying to focus on her modeling career.

When faced with tough challenges, Jef has always resorted to prayers.

“I really depend and find comfort in God,” Jef said. “Whenever problems come my way, I accept them and look for solutions instead of dwelling on them.”

Justine Ferrer, the beauty queen

She says: “Well, I can say that I’m a real Survivor because I have been the breadwinner of my family for 10 years now. Also, I am providing for my nephew’s education and am helping my friends and relatives as much as I can. For me, winning their respect and love made me a real survivor.”

Justine Ferrer worked in Japan as a singer at the age of 19 and since then has become a breadwinner of the family.

As a businesswoman, Justine helped her father in a buy-and-sell business and managed a baby ultrasound company.

To physically prepare for Survivor Philippines Palau, Justine enhanced her skills by enrolling in a swim school, but most of all she invested on a lot of rest and vitamins.

She has also prepared emotionally for the experiences ahead of her on the island.

“Alam ko na ang buhay sa isla ay unusual, puwede kang masaktan, masugatan at magutom kaya inihanda ko na ang sarili ko,”Justine said.

Justine believes that her “uniqueness” is the key for her to become a Castaway.

“I think I was chosen because they are curious about what’s really inside of me and my behavior,” Justine said.

Louie Ang, chickboy

He says: “Survivor ako kasi 5 girlfriends ko at hindi ako nahuhuli.”

Louie Ang, an I.T. professional, is a typical guy-next-door, living his happy–go–lucky life with a constant goofy grin on his face.

“Walang drama ang buhay ko, e,” Louie quips when asked if he has ever faced a real tough challenge in his life.

His main reason for joining Survivor Philippines Palau could not be any simpler, “Matagal ko nang gustong sumali, para makita ko ang sarili ko sa TV,” Louie said.

When asked to describe himself, Louie declares that he is a “chickboy” and “bad boy”.

As a “chickboy” Louie admits that at one point, he had five simultaneous girlfriends – and he was able to keep it a secret for quite a long time, until somebody messed up his Facebook account.

As a “bad boy,” Louie figured in quite a number of fistfights during his college days – one of such incidents even got caught on video and was posted online.

And why did he do it?

“Masarap ang feeling,” he recalls.

For Survivor Phlippines Palau, Louie would like to test his people skills by being an unlikely and covert leader.

Marvin Kiefer, the ultimate crush

He says: “I’m a Survivor because at any time of any day with just my backpack in hand, I am ready to go anywhere in the world.”

It seems that this Swiss–Filipino teenager hailing from Cagayan de Oro just has too much time on his hands.

Born in Switzerland and raised in CDO since he was three years old, Marvin Kiefer always had a passion for learning, adventure and experiencing different things.

Marvin has learned every sport that he could – from football, table tennis, cycling and track and made hobbies out of skateboarding, wall-climbing, break dancing and parkour.

He’s a backpacker, too – trekking to remote and unlikely places, interacting and immersing himself in indigenous customs.

Marvin is also an environmentalist and a vegetarian; traits that he acquired while helping his mom maintain an organic farm in CDO.

At the age of 16, he’s started modeling and made several TV appearances eventually winning QTV’s Hired where he inked a deal to become the image endorser for a line of designer jeans.

To prepare himself for Survivor Philippines Palau, Marvin said he had to improve his people skills by reading psychology books.

Maya Segovia, the lady pilot

She says: “I’m a survivor in the truest sense. I survived all life’s challenges. I can accomplish anything inspite of all the personal problems I’m going through. I’m a mom, a military officer, a military pilot and a business woman. I can do multi-tasking and get the work done well.”

Captain Maya Segovia, a military officer and a pilot of the Philippine Air Force has always thought of herself as a man trapped in a woman’s body.

“Kahit na emotional pa rin ako bilang babae, kaya kong makipagsabayan sa mga lalaki,” the mother of two said.

Maya has been a pilot for seven years and she believes that it is her destiny to be a part of the profession ruled by men.

“Flying is really one of the things that make me happy,” she added.

Always competitive and physically active, Maya has been a mountaineer for 16 years and has also participated in triathlons.

She is also a taekwondo black-belter.

Despite all her credentials, Maya prepared herself for Survivor Philippines: Palau by studying people politics through reading books on psychology.

This Q & A is an excerpt from her FHM feature

Seems like everyone these days wants to be a chef. What made you decide to be one?
Well, I’ve always loved to cook and experiment with food but I never planned on being a chef. My parents knew that I loved cooking. My dad has a restaurant in Palawan, La Sirenetta. It was built for me when I finished college in the University of Hawaii. I know it seems as though it was all just served on a platter, but let me tell you this, anyone who is willing and brave enough to run my place for a day is more than welcome to take over! Ha ha ha! The word “work” is so underrated when it comes to running restaurants.

We hear you’ll be moving to Italy for further studies?
Yes, I’ll be training and working in Positano, on the Amalfi coast in Italy. I want to expand on seafood dishes since that’s what we have in abundance in Palawan. But, of course, you can’t come to Italy and leave not knowing how to make a perfect pizza!

Do we get a discount the next time we drop by your restaurant?
Apart from mine in Palawan, my mom has three restaurants in Boracay. You can choose from Cafe Del Mar, Mama’s Fish House, and Wahine. As far as the discount, I’ll put in some good words for you guys, ha ha ha!

Ever used your knowledge of food in the art of the bedchamber?
As far as I can remember I’ve only used strawberries and whipped cream. It’s kind of old-fashioned, ha ha ha

Mika Batchelor is a 25-year old chef and restaurateur from Palawan.

Although she is representing the beautiful islands of Coron, Mika grew up in Boracay.

The beauty of these two beautiful Philippine beaches made her fell in love with the ocean and the outdoors.

Among her adventurous hobbies include surfing, sailing and rock–climbing.

But she faces challenges everyday as she takes charge of her restaurant by herself.

“Being a restaurant owner, I really learned leadership by dealing and socializing with people,” Mika said.

To prepare herself for Survivor Philippines Palau, Mika ate lots of high–protein food, fruits and vegetables.

“We have a hill in Coron with a cross at the top; it’s about seven hundred steps. I run there back and forth every day for my endurance,” Mika added.

Shaun Rodriguez, dad

He says: “Naranasan ko nang ma-bankrupt dati dahil sa negosyo as in wala natirang pera sa akin tapos ang dami kong utang. Pero hindi ako nawalan ng pag-asa.. namasukan ako sa isang shipping line. 2 months pa lang ako nagte-training, kinuha na kong waiter sa barko ng isang international cruise, hanggang sa unti-unti, nabayaran ko ang utang ko. Ginawa ko lahat ng best ko at hindi ako sumuko. Survivor Ako!”

Shaun Rodriguez knows how it feels to be on top one day and down in the gutters the next after suffering bankruptcy and losing everything he has invested in a mining business years ago.

But what’s important to him is that he was able to bounce back and now takes pleasure in the simple joys of being a public servant.

Shaun works as a Public Relations staff at the City Council’s Office in Manila where he is engaged in dental and medical missions and feeding programs among other public service affairs.

“I have really become sympathetic to the plight of the less fortunate,” Shaun said. “Masarap tumulong sa mahihirap lalo na pag na-a-appreciate nila ang kahit kaunting tulong na naibigay mo sa kanila.”

To prepare himself for Survivor Philippines: Palau, Shaun focused on improving his endurance by running for hours from the Quirino Grandstand to Roxas Boulevard.

“Tingin ko iyon ang importante sa laro, yung matibay ang katawan mo. Kahit gutom ka, kailangan 100% pa rin ang ibibigay mo sa challenges. Bawal ang lampa sa Survivor Philippines.” Shaun added.

Suzuki Sadatsugu, Japinoy Huk

He says: “Survivor ako kasi kahit malayo ako sa parents ko, kaya kong labanan ang lahat ng challenges sa buhay ko… kahit hindi lahat ng tao, naiintindihan ako, sinisigurado ko bago matapos ang araw ay nakilala ko sila at nakilala rin nila ako at naiintindihan ang pagkatao ko.”

Suzuki Sadatsugu lived in Japan for 18 years but still managed to stay true to his Filipino roots.

He usually visits his relatives in Manila, the reason he’s very familiar with the country and knows how to speak Filipino quite well.

Fondly called “Piko” or “Zuki”, he is taking up BS Criminology at Emilio Aguinaldo College in Manila.

Towering at 6 feet and banking on his exotic looks, Suzuki started modeling when he was 19 years old and gained quite an exposure by joining competitions.

Suzuki would try to stay true to himself as he faces the challenges of being a Castaway.

“Masayang-masaya ako na nakasali ako sa Survivor, pero kinakabahan ako sa pautakan. Hindi ko kasi kaya na mag-lie o kaya ’yung awayin ang ibang Castaways. Friendly talaga ako at lagi lang akong nagpapatawa. Sana matawa sila sa jokes ko para hindi nila ako sipain sa island.” Suzuki said.

Tara Macias, taray queen

She says: “I am not afraid to die, to suffer and to get lost, and with that mindset, over-all fear has no place in me as I fear no evil and that makes me a real survivor.”

At the age of 16, when their father passed away and their family business had to be closed down, Tara Macias imposed upon herself to be self–supporting and to help her family get back on its feet. She has been working as an English language tutor to Koreans as well as a call center representative.

“Maaga ako namulat sa hirap, kaya lahat sisiw na sa akin.” Tara said passionately.

Tara describes herself as an extreme person, God-fearing yet liberated and a certified party-goer. Being very outspoken and confident, Tara admits that people get easily intimidated by her. But she’s also very personable despite the usual first impression. She sticks to her principles and always does her best in any situation.

“Marami ang hindi nakakaintindi sa akin. Marami ang nagagalit,” Tara admits. “Paiba-iba kasi ako. Istrikto kung minsan, mataray. Pero kapag nakikita nila ako na gumigiling sa dance floor, sasabihin naman nila, pakawala ako, plastik. Hay, bahala sila sa mga life nila.”

Troy Perez, the mentalist

He says: “Since my childhood, it’s been my obsession to be different from my playmates, classmates and friends through magic and real life adventures. In joining this game, it will further bolster my longing for more adventure. It will open a wider horizon for the fulfillment of my dreams.”

It is second nature for Troy Perez to entertain people, the very reason why he got into performing as a magician or, as he prefers to be called, a mentalist.

After taking up BS Biology in Manila, he landed a job in a bank and his mentalist tricks came in handy as he usually got invited to corporate shows.

“I hate to be caught off-guard,” Troy said when asked how he would describe himself. To avoid such situations, he had a unique way of preparing his state of mind for Survivor Philippines: Palau.

“Bago pa man ‘yung show, I practiced remote viewing or visualization,” Troy said. “I already imagined the situations I could possibly face and my reaction to those situations,” He added.

Let’s see if his tricks would work to his advantage in the islands of Palau.

Vlad Nesas, the metrosexual

He says: “I consider myself a real survivor because I have been through a lot of challenges in my life. Growing up, I always felt insecure. Pakiramdam ko ang pangi-pangit ko. This is the reason why I improved my body, my looks, pati na ang dating ko sa mga tao.Tingnan mo naman ngayon, hindi lang ako nag-improve, model pa ako ngayon.”

Vlad Nesas calls himself an “alpha male”, a dominant guy who always gets what he wants. He is confident that this is going to be his ace in winning the title of Pinoy Sole Survivor.

Vlad is a graduate of Industrial Design, Major in Fine Arts at the University of Sto. Tomas where he was also a varsity swimmer.

He considers Joining Survivor Philippines: Palau as his major test of character.

“Kapag nakayanan ko itong Survivor, made na made na talaga ako” Vlad said smugly. “To prepare, talagang pinaganda ko ang katawan ko… sinanay ko ang sarili ko sa hirap. Grabe, six times a week na nga ang pagwo-work out ko. Kaya ba ng iba yun?”

He also knows that the cash prize and the title would drastically change his life, that’s why he is giving his all in the game.

“Hindi ako nagpapatalo. Hindi ako madaling mauto o mapaikot. Hindi rin ako takot manggago. Kung nabilib sila kay Marlon noon… well, hindi pa nila nakikilala si Vlad!” he said.

Episode 19 - The 4th Immunty Challenge ( Huwag ka na magalit )

OMFG! Last night was really intense. I was physically drained just watching. That’s why I am doing the recap just now and this is how it goes…

The show, as always, starts with a short peek at where the previous episode left off. Nina and JC in medical hassle. JC with a possible snake bite and Nina with a small fracture.

It is Immunitty Challenege day once again and at the Jarakay camp, Marlon found some paint, probably the same way Naak did in the previous episode. They waste no time playfully putting them on, even as the tribe outcast, KIko, looks on. Somehow, Kiko’s composure is admirable during all this time that he is on enemy grounds. He admits, "My thought are always with Naak. I may be here physically but my spirit, my heart, my loyalty naiwan sa Naak."

Speaking of Naak, it rains on that side of the island. Naturally, it washes off most of the paint that the tribe members have put on earlier. They get drenched, yes. But their spirits remain high. They even seem to have forgotten about JC.

The Game.

Both tribes come together for the fifth time to play for immunity. Paolo comments that both tribes had fun with the body paint.

Before the game starts, Paolo points out that both tribes have one missing member each. The castaways acknowledge the fact. Then Paolo calls JC and Nina in. JC walks over to his tribe looking well and good like nothing happened. While Jarakay gets tense, the Naak members clap their hands, relieved that their team mate is ok. It is a different reaction, though, when Nina wobbles toward the group with a cast on her foot. They all give out gasps and worried looks.

Paolo announces, “Si Nina, may gusting sabihin sa Jarakay…at sa Naak na rin.”

Nina breaks down. "As much as I want to stay, yung toe ko ayaw eh. I have a fractured toe. Although maliit lang siya na injury, it requires casting and it cannot bet wet. As explained to me, marami pang challenges na susunod na hindi ko naman puwedeng tatakbo ako dala - dala ko 'to diba. Hindi rin ako puwedeng maglangoy ganoon. So naintindihan ko yun. Pero mahirap din para sakin na magpaalam sa inyo. At least di ba, hindi naman ako na-vote out. Thank you Naak, thank you for the camaraderie. Di ko man kayo lubusang nakilala lahat kayo kasi hindi naman tayo nagkasama. Thank you, you have been very good competitors. All of you."

Although from the other tribe, from a mother to a mother, Zita blurts out. “Magpaalam ka sa akin ha.” She hugs Nina the tightest and weeps with her after Nina is done with the rest of her speech to Jarakay. Cris also takes the opportunity to let Nina know that they have the same birthday – August 5. He then hands out some food for Jarakay to eat.

Paolo also has some words for Nina. “Nina, isang malaking karangalan ang makasama ka dito sa Survivor Philippines. PInatunayan mong isa kang totooong mandirigma, dito sa ating laro. Ingat ka”

Nina’s last words: "Itong experience ko dito sa island, hindi ko makukumpara sa kahit anong experience. Mahirap talaga i-describe. Hindi man ako nakarating sa dulo, hindi man ako naging sole Survivor, it's not the prize, it's not the money. It's the privilege of having been through sauch ano, nag-sacrifice ka, nag-challenge ka, nakisama ka, nakibagay ka. Tsaka legacy ko na yun."

Before they proceed to the game, Paolo hands out whole clumps of bananas for each tribe.

On to the game.

The way I see it, although the balls look like oversized plastic laundry thingies that you toss in the washing machine for a better wash, the mechanics of the game is almost that of soccer – only that players seem miniature beside the balls. The players are to push the giant balls toward their team goals and at the same time try to prevent the other team from scoring a goal. The ratio per team is 2 balls : 3 players.

In round 1, Jarakay's Vern, Charisse, and Nikki take on Naak's Zita, Kaye and Vevh. Jarakay’s blue team chose to put all their power to push one single ball while Naak’s red split into two girls pushing their ball toward the goal and Kaye to stop the blue ball. Naak’s strategy works, earning them the first point.

In round two, It is the men’s turn… well, 5 boys and a pair of man boobs. Jarakay copies the Naak method. JC and Cris push Naak's ball while John and Marlon push Jarakay's ball. Both Rob and Jace act as goalies, stopping the opponent from scoring. This time though, Jace’s hard work at the gym again pays off as he is able to block both JC and Cris with their ball. John holds Rob by the waist while Marlon pushes the blue ball to score Jarakay’s first goal.

Naak : 1 , Jarakay : 1

During the excitement, the camera catches John shaking uncontrollably – possibly still due to his lack of potassium.

In the third and final round, whoever scores two goals first, wins immunity. This time Rob, Vhev and Zita take on Charise, Vern and Jace.

John is again caught by the camera shaking. This could also be due exhaustion and the chilly weather.

For immunity!

Naak splits immediately. Jarakay's Charisse and Vern push the ball while Jace does the defense not leaving Zita alone. Vern takes on Vhev. Charise moves from ball to ball to confuse and exhaust Rob. Rob tries to keep up but Charise seems to be more nimble in the shallow water. Rob occasionally leaves Cha to help Zita push the ball against Jace. This gives Charise time to push the blue balls even just a few feet towards the home goal.

At one point Jace tries to stop both Naak balls so Vern can push one unattended blue ball since Rob and Charise are busy contending over another ball. Rob again notices this and takes on Vern to push the blue ball back, then runs over to Vhev to help push a red Naak ball. Vern leaves her blue ball to stop Rob and resume contending with Vhev. All this time, Charise iss left free for a few seconds to move a Jarakay ball. Rob quickly runs over to stop her. Paolo points out that interestingly, no one is employing a mental strategy. Instead, it has been a physical game from the start.” Kailangan mag-sugal”.

Hmm sino kaya ang maapektoohan sa comment na ito ni Paolo?

Marlon coaches Charise to get on the ball. An irritated Rob retorts that it is illegal and shoots Marlon an angry look. Paolo agrees with Rob on the ball. Not intimidated one bit, Marlon takes the opportunity to tease Rob.

“Huwag ka na magalit… Huwag ka na magalit… Huwag ka na magalit… Huwag ka na magalit”

Rob roars back, “HINDI AKO NAGAGALIT!”

Kiko who has been silent during this time chides Marlon. “Huwag mo na kasing gatungan.”

Marlon, undaunted, snaps back “Bakit? Bawal ba yun?... Bawal ba yun?”

"Mind on the game Rob. Hayaan mo na." Kiko encourages his team mate.

“Hello!.. Hello!” Marlon won’t stop.

Rob just raises an open palm at Marlon.

“Yeah. Talking the hand” Man Boobs replies.

Pwede magrequest, Marlon? Pwede Tagalugin mo na lang?”Kausapin mo ang kamay. Ayan. Diba ang dali lang?

As everyone’s attention briefly shifted to the brewing fight, Vhev grabs the opportunity to free herself and push the Naak ball to the goal. But Vern is quick to play defense on Vhev. She then complains that Vhev is blocking with her foot. Vhev replies “Anong nakaharang? Siyempre pipigilan ko!” A silent Paolo means that there is no violation. Rob runs to her aid. Charise follows and holds him by the waist.

The players switch. Man to man. Girl on girl.

A stronger Jace proves too much for Rob and Jace scores 1 goal – 1 more goal away from immunity. Hmmm, so Zita was Jace’s equal match, not Rob???

The game continues.

Charise take on the remaining blue ball. A tiring Rob walks over to her. Zita pushes a red ball close to the Naak goal. Vern blocks her just in time. Rob and jace now take on the blue ball while the girls wrestle with each other on the remaining balls. The red balls are only a few feet from the goal. The last blue ball in the middle of the field. The players struggle.

Rob makes a judgment call.

Paolo screams. “Rob! Tumakbo!”

Rob leaves Jace in the middle of the field to help push the two balls into the goal before Jace freely pushes the blue ball into theirs.

“Si Jace! Hinayaan si Jace!”

Then time spins in a slow motion and I go numb. What I have feared has happened. Sumugal si Rob.

The blue ball starts to roll quickly. Rob gets to Zita and Vern.

But the red ball won’t budge. Vern is holding up.

Jace’s team mates yell words of encouragement. The blue ball is now just a few feet from the goal and is unstoppable.

1 Naak ball goes in.

“One all!”

“HINAYAAN SI JACE! SI JACE UNTI-UNTI!” Paolo is at the top of his lungs.

Jarakay can already smell victory.

Naak’s 3 versus Jarakay 2 can’t seem to muster enough strength to move the red ball.

Jace hauls the blue ball in and…

“JARAKAY WINS THE CHALLENGE! IMMUNITY FOR JARAKAY”

The blue team rejoices. The red team couldn’t believe it. My legs and hands are shaking and my stomach has cramped a few times. My palms are wet with cold sweat.

Naak will go to Tribal council… but not without a twist. Read: A predetermined one.

Kiko will also be back with Naak. Although with immunity from a vote out, he has no voting powers either. No that is not the twist. The twist is the guests or visitors joining the Tribal Council to observe Naak.

We’ll see. We’ll see.

Episode 18 - A Stranger Among Us

After a short glimpse of how Jarakay reclaims the winner status, Kiko confesses that he regrets being chosen by jarakay to kidnap.

As expected, Naiilang ang iba sa presence ni Kiko sa tribe. Although we though Jace would be on the top of that list of those uncomfortable, it is Marlon who is openly expressing it. “Kung magkakaroon ako ng pagkakataong meron akong tanggalin ditto sa Survivor, unang una si Kiko talaga.

As night set in, the tribe gathers around as they start making a fire. Jace expresses that they hope to start a fire as it is very cold. Hmmm, none of this tribe’s members thought of doing it earlier? John is puzzled as to why they are having a hard time doing it this time. Marlon has always been the one who knew what to do to easily start a fire. Somehow pumapalya siya ngayon.

Kiko steps in to help Marlon and giving suggestions… ayayay, not here, not now dude. This ain’t home ground. Even if you see them discouraged, not to mention hungry… ok, ok, basta hinay hinay. Many of them are watching you and then judging you. Especially Marlon, who thinks that you are stealing his thunder in his kitchen, making fire for the tribe when he couldn’t. His pride must have been seared like pork chop.

Charise at least sees it and laughs at Marlon acting like a 10 year old kid. “You're a 30 year old man acting so immature. I don't get it at all. The least you could do is be civil.”

As Kiko successfully fans the sparks into warm flames, the 10 year old immature man-child walks off, pretending to be irritated by the mosquitoes. Kiko the shares his journal to the rest of the tribe. From an intellectual to an intellectual, Charise admires Kiko’s insightful nature.

While eating, Kiko finds a “pako” in his rice. “Unless someone wants to kill me. Matulis pa. Talagang pinili nya yung pinaka magandang pako sa kahoy” Whoa! I know I have been hard on Kiko before but damn! I just hope that that was just piyuuuuure coincidence because otherwise the big-fat-you-know-who would just be guilty of malicious intent.

At para si Cheka Menite, (Patani nasan ka na?) Bern, tumabi sa pagkakahega kay Jis at nag share ng iisang onan. Nakahalata si Nekki at nagsabi, "Kasya ba yung dalawa diyan?" Hahaha.

At the other tribe, the members express how they miss Keku. Zita sayas that she misses how Kiko does not need to be told what to do. He would just get up and do things around the camp on his own will. Not that the others are that lazy.

The next morning, Zita talks about the tribes favorite shellfish because it is big, although it is the most difficult to get. Vhev recalls that it is familiar to her as a child. This tribe is really shown to be well fed. Cris tells about how the tribe is preparing a lot of food so they are well nourished for the next Immunity Challenge. Without Kiko, that is. But without JC?

JC’s foot has started swelling and it could be infected so the production team doctor has ruled that JC go to the hospital to have it looked at. Coincidentally, Nina’s foot has also been hurting. It could be a broken bone so she is going to the hospital as well.

As she leaves and says her goodbyes to the tribe, “Uy ah, kung kaya ko yung Immunity mag-co-compete ako ha. This is not a sign of weakness ha, babatukan ko kayong lahat," Nina told her tribemates. She even half jokingly says to Marlon, “Ikaw, kahit na gusto mo kong ma-out ha." Yeah you tell him off.

After Nina leaves, life goes on at the Jarakay camp. They set up the prize hammock and Jace tries to get on it, but the hammock spews him out as it turns him over.

JC and Nina both find out that they are taking the same boat to have their ailments checked out. They go to the same hospital where John was previously rushed. As the Survivor game is still being played, neither talk to each other. JC worries that if it is a snake bite as he over heard one of the Thai doctors say, he might not be able to get back to his tribe in time.

Nina on the other who thinks that he foot was just dislocated is disheartened to find out that she has a fracture. Having a fracture means having to immobilize the foot with a cast, and not have it get wet – which will be impossible living right by the beach. “Nalulungkot ako kasi I realized na, Oh mY Gosh!, pwede ako matanggal talaga. Kahit hindi ko choice.” Hmmm, Mommy, unang una, halos lahat ng natatanggal, hindi nila choice. Pero I know what you mean – ayaw mo matanggal by default. Pangalawa, You are already telling the story of what happened – meaning you are already back on the island. Hindi man pinakita yang paa mo, obvious na walang cast. Otherwise, splint lang siguro siya.

Back at the Jarakay camp, with Kiko’s presence, the tribe is apparently vey careful with their moves, not to give Kiko any hint of what could be going on within this circle. Hardly anyone talks to him at this point. The thing is, though, they were so careful that they wouldn’t even clean up the surroundings anymore? No cooking? No nothing? Interesting. Even Marlon notices this disorganization but is also being careful not to scold the tribe in front of the “bisita”. Besides, “Ayoko makipag-plastikan, ayoko makipagkulitan” declares Marlon. But isn’t that what you’re good at? The plastikan part? *sigh*

Like now, even after confessing that he is only using the girls, Marlon talks to Charise about the muscle group’s lineup which goes: Nina, Nikki then Cha. "At least, may chance kayo sa akin," Marlon re-assures her. Behind her back, he reassures the viewinbg public. "Kung gagamitin ko itong mga babaeng ito, mas madali para sakin para maging sole Survivor."

The asshole attitude continues as he makes “parinig” to Kiko who has cooked the day’s rice. "Isipin mo suman yung kinakain mo ngayon." Ayayaay… insecurity can really eat a whole boar alive.

On the lighter side of the island, Naak gets treemail for the next Immunity Challenge…something about balls, karambola..ganun. As they prepare, they put on warpaint. Rob does his like that of a captain. But Kaye adds a bra look on him as well, totally screwing up the whole captain idea.

End credits roll with a sneak peek at the Immunity Challenge. Someone loses temper...

Marlon: Huwag ka nang magalit!

Rob: (Roars) Di ako nagagalit!

Me: Huuu! Suntukan na lang!

...and Paolo reveals another twist.

Episode 17 - The 4th Reward Challenge

Gigit is gone. Patani is gone. The Jarakay tribe is still trying to get over the double whammy. . . by lying around. Hmmm. Nina doesn’t hide her feelings about Patani. She misses her already.

Marlon and John, though, don’t waste time getting back into the game. Away from sight and ou of earshot of the other tribe members, they talk about who to vote out next. Noticeably, Marlon has this tactic to pressure someone to decide immediately. Like just now, while John talks about no more backstabbing and betrayal, Marlon keeps changing the subject to who should be voted out. He probably doesn’t want to make a promise he couldn’t keep.

At the other camp, which by now I am getting used to expecting the lighter side of this show, Kiko is getting scrubbed by Nanay Zita. Jeeeeps!...ok… nagulat lang ako. In my head it would usually be a younger woman, probably the same age as Kiko heehee. Seriously though, Kiko is all praises for Zita who is so “maalaga” to the whole tribe. If at all, she could be the one holding the tribe together.
Rob, not be outdone, also grabs attention as he starts playing with the wooden supply box that the production has provided. He first starts getting on it as it floats on the water then he realizes that he can get inside it and turn it into a real boat. He and Cris take turns having fun with it as JC watches from a makeshift bench. Kiko joins them and it is hilarious as he tries to close the box with him inside it. Cris then pushes the box out to deeper water. As all this happens, Zita plays on the swing that they have built hanging low above the water.

JC then talks about how he is closes with Kaye. Rob confirms it. Kantiyawan na! See, it is easy why the viewing public prefers this tribe over the other. Here, the tribe is shown as a happy, loving, closely-knit family, no having much thought for the game and will surely remain friends long after this show/ competition is over.
Back at the Jarakay tribe, Marlon complains that it takes an hour and a half to cook rice – much longer than it should because of the crack in the pot that they use to cook rice. Hmmm, Marlon, galing mo naman tumantiya ng oras. Sabagay, oo nga pala. Magaling ka sa lahat. Actually Cahrise acknowledges your usefulness as well as yourinfluence to the tribe. Yun nga lang she also has other plans for you.

Si Nina naman, she continues to lament about how this game is affecting her – how it has become “plastikan”, and if one’s purpose is to stay in the game, one has to remember that this is not an all heart game. She intends to stay longer than she could and will take any offer that would extend her stay on the island for the longest time possible.

As for Marlon, he zeroes in on John and Jace and also acknowledges their influence as an alliance. However, he feels the need to do something to subdue that influence. “Gusto ko lang na magkaroon sila ng takot.”

Meanwhile, at Naak, Rob talks about his r eputation. “Babaero daw ako…mm…oo na hindi…dun sila chumamba.” Eh pag tinatawag kang Onyok, chamba din ba yun? Hehehe peace tayo kuya.

Treemail AA. JC gets it and reads it to the tribe…and ends it with “Ano ka hilo?” Pangit ng sound. I didn’t hear most of it. Even when he asked Cris to read it.
Rob makes a final joke about the reward challenge as he does an impression of Paolo.
Survivors, are you ready? Naak, are you ready? Jarakay, are you ready? If you are ready, then you are ready! – Ang kulit!

The reward challenge.
The castaways are to unwrap long pieces of cloth wrapped around 5 wooden posts erected by the beach. They must do this by wrapping the cloth onto themselves as they go around the post. On member is added as they progress through the posts so that there will be a bundle of wrapped together members by the 5th and final wooden post. Then they are to unwrap them selves out of the cloth altogether and run back to the team mat. First team to have all the members back in the mat wins.
The reward – two pillows and a family sized hammock + a chance to steal (kidnap) one of the losing tribe’s members.

Survivors ready,
John and Marlon run head to head with Cris and JC, both teams quickly get the ribbons off the wooden posts but Naak starts to pull away. JC and Cris reach the second post and are joined by Kiko, then by Vhev one the third post.
By this time Naak is having a comfortable lead as Vern joins the Jarakay bundle. But this is when jarakay starts to catch up so that by the time Rob joins the Naak bundle, both tribes are again head to head. At the fifth wooden post, Jarakay starts to take the lead as Naak gets into trouble with the five members in the bundle. We see Vhev off balance and being dragged around.

Then Jarakay completes the unwrapping of the posts. Marlon now has to unwrap the cloth off the tribe members, which he quickly does. Naak, try as they might couldn’t keep up with the fierce tribe that is Jarakay . The Jarakay players start running back to the home mat one by one. For one moment though, I thought that JC would actually catch up. But Jarakay is just faster.

Jarakay wins the challenge. They now get to take home some homey comforts, especially the pillows. Huwag lang lawayan ni Marlon pag natutulog LOL!
The most important part of the reward though is the chance to kidnap a member from the losing tribe. As per the teasers/ spoilers that go around, I was under the impression that The winning tribe will actually abduct that member while the rest of the tribe sleeps - a la LOST. It turns out, Jarakay gets to pick who they want to take home with them.

They choose Kiko – at least Nikki says so. Oh no! Will there be a confrontation? This we would like to see.

As Jarakay marches back to camp, Kiko walks behind Jace.

Episode 16 - Double Eliminations

Ok, First of all, I apologize for the late post – only a few hours before the next reward challenge – Thanks to Smart Bro who had an unscheduled service interruption for more than 24 hours. Bu tthen when did they ever had a scheduled one. Whatever.

So the show starts with a short glimpse of what happened last week – Gigit getting voted out and doing the walk of shame. Now as openly hinted by teasers and widely discussed in forums all weekend, the double elimination. By now, even Paolo has issued a statement regarding this as posted by his online character on popular Filipino forum boards – Pinoy Exchange.

But as Paolo announces that there is a second elimination, the show launches into a recap of what has happened during the last 9 days that the castaways have been on the island. ( I usually expect things like this halfway through the season but to let’s give the Filipino version some elbow room to be different from the CBS versions. Tutal, if Castaway Productions gave its thumbs up, too late to thumb it down now, don’t you guys think?)

Here’s what we have learned so far.

Jarakay.

Marlon leads the business of alliances. Kinaiinisan ng lahat ngunit pinaka tuso. The only castaway to be in two alliances. Cha- smart babe. Nikki, closest to Cha. Nina, thought of as the one with the capability to create an alliance peo pilit lang pinapasok sa grupo nina Cha. Patani, entertainer ng grupo, anino ni Nina.

John – leader of the muscle alliance. Jace – best friend ni John, strongest in the challenges. Vern, also in the muscle group. attracted to Jace

Naak - Isang pamilya. Busog sa pagmamahal at pagkain because even though the camp is smaller, it is rich in edible plants, fish, shellfish and crustaceans.

Rob, the comic and politician, knows the game the most. JC – Taong siyudad, hindi sanany sa buhay isla. Cris – taong gubat. Kaye, lingerie model, malakas din sa mga challenges. Vhev – Farmer. Zita – ina ng Naak, fisher, cook, cleaner, builder, laundrywoman, etc.

A lookback on the events.

The game has 13 cycles. 1 reward challenge (RC), 1 immunity challenge (IC) and 1 tribal council (TC).

Jarakay (all male) gets the camp materials in the 1^st RC. Member swap before the 1^st IC. Jarakay wins. Chev out first. 2^nd RC, Flint goes to Jarakay. Naak takes a special reward test to get matches. Both tribes get fire. 2^nd IC – Jarakay wins. 2nd TC – Emerson out. 3^rd RC – Naak still loses. Then Naak is visited by a naak. 3^rd IC, Naak wins. 3^rd Tribal Council – Gigit out.

Back to the present.

SO now Jarakay is left with no choice but to send another one of their own, home. This time without the luxury of speaking to any tribe member.

Time to vote. Marlon goes first and the rest follow.

Paolo tallies the votes. Then he reads them out as he shows each vote.

“Nina.”

“Patani.”

“John…” Marlon’s eyes become slits.

“Nikki.”

“Nina.”

“Nikki…” John puts his hand over his mouth.

“Patani…”

“Nina, Nikki and Patani , two votes each. Kung sino man ang nakasulat ditto, siyang matatanggal.”

“Ang ikaapat na natanggal sa Survivor Philippines… Patani.”

Patani just smiles as she holds out her torch for Paolo to extinguish.

Paolo comments, “ Halata sa last vote na hidi kayo nagkakaisa.”

Marlon take and carries the Jarakay banner as the remaining castaways leave the tribal council.

The ever endearing Patani, even during her last moments on the show never fails to entertain and draw out laughter to her fans.

..... sayang hindi ako nagtagal don... pero sa kabilang side naman ng pag iisip ko, ok lang, kasi unang una talaga, mapasali lang dito sa SURVIVOR , malaking karangalan na talaga para sa akin. Kasi, nasa Cebu ako. Tapos kung hindi ako napasama ditto, hindi ako makakabalik ng Maynila. Eh kasi wala akong pamasahe di ba?
Tapos hindi ako magkakaron ng fasfort. Tapos hindi ako makakapunta dito sa Thailand. Tapos nagkaroon ako ng EXFOSURE!

A Few Words From Paolo Bediones ( A few daw o! Hehe )

I am reposting this from Paolo Bediones aka LEBRAB from the PEx Forums, clarifying the issues surrounding the double eliminations that we are supposed to witness tonight.

Hey everyone!

We are entering our fourth week of airing and it has been a blast for me since we started preparing the show for you guys around February of this year. Many of you have been there since the audition process began and continue to support the show. I agree with Jeff Probst when he told me that I have one of the best jobs in the world and that I will have so much fun. It's a great ride and I don't want it to end honestly.

I have been posting here since the first thread was ever created. GMA never told me to do so. I just simply wanted to be able to give you guys an inside look into the production and the decision making process that normally other shows wouldn't even think of doing. At first the people behind the show were wary about me posting here since I may inadvertently reveal some details of the show that should remain confidential. Nevertheless I still went out on a limb to post here to share with all of you my passion for the show.

I do not post here to justify, rationalize, intellectualize or even defend the show. As far as the production team is concerned after Castaway Productions approved of every single twist as well as their execution, no justification was necessary since obviously there weren't any rules that were broken.

Honestly I am surprised at the reaction of people over the double elimination. I wrote a blog on twists a long time ago and I revised it just a bit so that it will be more updated. This much I will say: TRUST ME. People have been making references to only one other Survivor show that they know: the CBS version. But there are nearly 40 other countries doing Survivor and they have more ridiculous twists than we have.

When we say the double elimination was pre-determined it means months ago before the game began it was already in out treatment. It means months ago before there even was a Jarakay and Naak all of us in production knew that come 3rd Tribal council we will be taking out 2 castaways regardless of which tribe they are from.

Some people wanted clues or a hint that there would be a double elim. That would have defeated the purpose since most of the castaways would have seen all those episodes that you mentioned. Thats also the reason why we created several of our own innovations even in the challenges and changed the rules of Survivor CBS so we could lessen the advantage of any Castaway who is familiar with that particular challenge.

We wanted the double elim twist to totally catch everyone off guard including the viewers. We deliberately veered away from what the US version has done to execute that particular twist. No clues, no hint and pretty brutal as well.

This is Survivor and people will be eliminated and if you don't adapt and work well with your tribe not even a single elimination will save you. However if you are at the top of the Castaway rung based on your strategy and skills then even a triple elimination will not affect your winning as the Sole Survivor.

People have been asking for an assurance that if Naak lost they would lose two members. You all have no idea how prepared we were for that given Naak's losing streak.

Here's the inside story for those Survivor fans.

If Naak lost the immunity challenge and trooped to tribal and had the double elim they would be down to 5 compared to Jaracay's 9. Now for us in the show this would have been great because it would have allowed us to do two things which are pre determined as well.

Everything on Survivor Philippines way before the game began is plotted on a flowchart of "what ifs and thens." So in the case of Naak losing immunity in the eating challenge (which was possible given their losing streak) here's what would have happened that again as a producer of the show I would have preferred.

Jaracay - 9 and Naak – 5

At the next Reward Challenge I will point out the advantage of Jaracay in the number of members and simply state that now we do a tribe reshuffle via schoolyard pick where you choose an opposing team member as long as there are any remaining only then can u "retrieve" your own former tribemate. Before the reshuffle I will ask each tribe to send forth their "leader" and he or she begins the pick with the person chosen making the next pick and so forth until we have:

Jaracay - 7 and Naak – 7

Why is this ideal for me as a producer?

First you even out the numbers. This early in the game a challenge with just 5 competitors would totally be unexciting especially with 4 members sitting out. The challenges were simply not designed that way. Sayang ang set-up.

Second by reshuffling the tribes old alliances will now be tested especially for some who only have on or two real allies in the tribe. Then the whole issue of trust even without being in the same tribe comes about. Since they are not allowed to talk to each other during challenges how can any of the castaways communicate with their allies who are now in another tribe? How will they give that assurance that they have not made any new alliances.

Now here's the question: even if the numbers are now at 7 - 7 after tribal council tonight, what stops Survivor Philippines from doing a tribe reshuffle anyway? And the more important question: Will we have one in the future?

Before I end this novela I would like to apologize to Neuter Noun for my reaction early this morning. I am sorry if I misinterpretted your post. Just so you all know me better I would rather have something said to my face rather than have people use subtleties and innuendos to imply anything. If that wasn't the case, Neuter Noun then I apologize and I thank you for supporting the show which I am so passionate about.

Guys, please don't question my motives for being here. If it was all about ratings I am sure none of you are respondents of the data gathering companies that determine the ratings so I am speaking to the wrong audience.

I am here for the love of the show and as a fan I always wanted to know more about Survivor. Now I have so much knowledge and I am continuing to learn from Castaway Productions as well, that I just want to share it with you guys since I know that other shows wouldn't give you that kind of inside look especially from their hosts.

Guys trust me and the trust the Survivor Philippines team as well as Castaway Productions because they have a franchise to protect and everything...I mean everything had to go through a stringent process of deliberation and revision. We cannot I repeat, cannot just throw in twists when we feel like it or we may lose the franchise.

I promised you guys a great show with a lot of twists. Have an open mind about the twists especially because those are there for all of you as well. To feel that shock, to feel that excitement and nervousness and anxiety that although it can not come close to approximating the feeling unless you are a Castaway, at least you have a taste of it while watching the show.

Just a sneak peek into what's gonna happen this week and a little spoiler as well:

Tribal council pushes through tonight and the 4th Castaway will be eliminated. We will do a quick recap most of the pertinent events that happened on the island since day 1 for those who want to be up to date on all the stories at camp, challenges and tribal. The Reward challenge will be exciting with a twist (here we go again) and the Immunity Challenge will leave many of you gasping for air and falling off your chairs in disbelief.

Episode 15 - TheThird Tribal Council

John is still not back so Jace and Gigit talk about their options in this game that is shifting right in front of them. In another spot on the beach, Vern talks to Patani about the current situation.

Vern: Gusto mo pa magstay sa Island? Kung gusto mo pa magstay, meron ako i-a-ask sa iyo.

Then we see Gigit, Jace, Cha and Marlon sit together. Hmmm, good move, Cha and Marlon. Keep you friends close but keep your enemies closer.

In her confessional, Charise openly speaks her mind about John and his possible return “ Personally I don’t want John to come back. He cannot exert as much effort at the challenges. It will be harder on the tribe and pointless t bring him back.” It does make sense, but life doesn’t always turn out the way we want it to. Especially not in this game.

From a distance, John walks toward the tribe with a big smile. And what a big grin it is, teeth and all, visible against Johns sunburnt skin. As he approaches the tribe, guess whose reaction is the most audible.

Cha: “OH MY GOD!” (yup, Cha, Oh your god. Time to smile through your teeth and pretend to be happy that John is back. While you’re at it, go and hug him before you lose your balance because you can’t feel your legs. Marlon, ikaw din. The only person I see who is genuinely happy to see John is Jace… Jace… Jace…)

So the entire tribe gathers around John wanting to know what happened to him at the hospital, what the diagnosis was and all those things. It turns out that John’s potassium level had drastically dropped. They did inform him about the time limit. From the looks of it, John has recovered to almost 90% and standing on solid ground.

The girl group plus Marlon convene and reevaluate their strategy. Nina starts to resent Marlon’s bossiness – “nananakot pa”. As he pushes for another person to be voted out, “basta kung sino yng sinuggest ni Cha, yun na”, Nina remains firm.

Patani: Natatawa ako

Nina (knowingly): Matawa ka na lang

Patani: Parang ginagamit tayo.

Nina: Ganun na nga, parang ginagamit nga lang tayo, so itawa mo na lang.

Yup, these girls know something.

Naak is at peace and even blissful as they improve their camp. Without a tribal council to worry about, they can focus on other important things like protecting the camp from high tide. It seems like Naak had built their camp too close to the water. It is fun watching them roll a big log, though, as Rob accurately imitates Paolo when he conducts the challenges. Zita even plays on a swing above the water.

Kiko on the other hand builds a small house for the fire. I gotta give it to the rastaman. He does know a lot and thinks ahead.

Back at Jarakay.

Gigit feels a growing friendship between the alliance and Cha and Nikki. He pinpoints to Nina and Patani as the odd people out. As a matter of fact Jace and ‘back in the game ‘ John decided on Patani. They pat each other on the back. Hug naman dyan .

The march to the Tribal Council

Since it is Jarakay’s first time at the council area, they light their torches. They settle in and Paolo gives the obligatory “your torches symbolize…” speech. But in a major twist, Paolo asks one person to momentarily step out of the council area, out of earshot so that the rest of the tribe can talk about that person

Here is the summary:

Patani. The tribe talks about her need for attention and her desire for exposure and fame

Nina. She is easy to get along with. Mabait, kusang tumutulong. John again raised the issue about the shelter, hindi sya nasabihan. Let it go dude. Gigit reiterates that she is an asset.

Vern. A competitive athlete. John: Her weaknes is her heart. Jace is just all smiles

Paolo chuckles, “Para kayong mga high school dito ah.”

Cha. Kung magsalita, may sense.

Gigit. Very wise. Merong gagawin to manipulate. Hindi mabasa kung ano ang talagang gagawin.

(Let me point out again na sobrang ingay ng generator in the background. It is almost agonizing to strain and try to hear the words of the castaways. Only Paolo seems t be noise proof. Can’t someone in the editing room do something about this so that we can really be in the moment to seriousness at the tribal council?)

Anyways, moving on…

Nikki. Wala ako narinig dahil ang ingay talaga ng generator.

Marlon. Super kulit. “Naniniwala na ko na marami siyang alam.” “Certain things he says might not be true,baka nagbubuhat lang ng bangko.”

Jace – natutuwa si Vern sa kanya. The tribe supports Jace during that controversial pillow challenge.

Vern feels that she didn’t give her best during the last Immunity Challenge. Pero sdayng nagpatalo nga ba ang Jarakay?

The drama continues:

Vern feels that she didn’t give her best during the last Immunity Challenge. Pero sadyang nagpatalo nga ba ang Jarakay? Cha admits that the outwit part of this competition is vey much alive. Nina points out that yes, the tribe members must get along but one should also protect oneself since this is still a competition. Patani caps the entire forum with: “Matanggal man ako o hindi, masaya na ako dahil may exfosure na ako.

Time to vote.

The Jarakay members walk to the platform to write the name of the tribemate that they think must go home. When everyone is odne, Paolo tallies the votes.

First vote, Gigit. Second vote, Patani. Third vote, Gigit (His face sours). Fourth vote, Gigit.

Bu this time, my eyes have doubled in size, and my brows have merged into one.

Fifth vote, Gigit. Four votes Gigit, one vote, Patani. “Kung pangalan ni Gigit ang nakasulat dito, siya ang matatanggal”

Sure I know that if the girls + Marlon group have voted for Gigit, Paolo would at least tally and announce the votes equally between Gigit and Patani. Maybe he’ll start saying ‘Patani’ from hereon.

Ang pangatlong natanggal sa Suvivor Philippines, Gigit.

Gigit hands out his torch for Paolo to put out. He walks into the darkness. Just like Chev, he does not look back at the tribe. Nobody cries though.

Oooookay. So at least we all know who Marlon voted out for.

But wait. What is this?

The castaways are showing their votes to the camera. John, Jace, and Vern have also voted for Gigit. It is a unanimous vote. So much for the alliance.

Gigit’s parting words: By voting me out, nawalan sila ng competitive edge.

Then you'd think the remaining castaways would pack up and go back to camp.

Noooo. Jarakay stays for another vote out.

Yikes!

Ano yannn???

Abangan. Eh ang tagal kaya ng lunes.

Episode 14 - Naak Treemail

The show starts with a cozy and comfy Naak. I have always liked the music that is played whenever they show Naak in a positive mood. JC expresses relief over the fact that today, no one is talking in hushed tones. Because today, no one is going home.

Rob reiterates how the entire tribe has become really close to his heart.

It is a different beat over at the Jarakay camp.

Gigit enumerates the misfortunes that have befallen them after 5 successive wins.

1. They lose the immunity challenge

2. John is seriously ill and is in a hospital somewhere.

3. The big pot that they use for cooking has a big crack and may fall apart anytime soon.

Vern expresses her sadness that they have already sort of lost a member even though they are yet to sit in their first tribal council. Patani on the other hand doesn’t understand why everyone is so serious around the camp.

Indeed they are. No Patani show today. No laughter around the bonfire. Everyone went straight to bed.

Langu Hospital in Setun Thailand.

Filipino and Thai doctors gather around John and discuss his situation. The Survivor team doctor explains to a translator that John has been experiencing weakness and tingling sensations in his extremities (hands and feet). The translator relays the information to a doctor in Thai. The doctor advises them that they will observe him first. They then wheel John who is now conscious into the wards.

Back on Koh Tarutao, The Naak members contemplate on Jarakay’s possible moves at the tribal council. Kiko thinks that they will start eliminating the weaker members of the tribe hence, will start picking the women out of the competition.

On the lighter side, as the Naak tribe members go about their usual camp chores , Cris, Vhev and JC find time to do some push ups and other exrceises. The weather seems to be good and the sun is out and shining. Then they get treemail. Rob goes to get it and reads it in front of the team. He reads it in a serious voice. Then we see that he is holding nothing in his hands. It is all a joke. Good one.

On the flipside, Marlon and Cha discuss alliances and strategies amidst an angry sea. The waves churn the water white with seafoam as Marlon assures Cha that he will vote with the girls. As long as they keep this a secret, their strategy will work. The muscle group, as Cha likes to call them has no idea of this arrangement and expects Marlon to vote with them.

Marlon adds, “Dahil wala si John, magrerecruit yang si Jace. Pero hindi nila dapat malaman na nasa girls ako”

Nina is not convinced. She needs more reassurance.

Marlon reminds Nina of how John had been hard on her when she rearranged the shelter without consulting John or the other tribe members. Marlon seals it. “Maniwala ka sa akin. Huwag ka nang mag-isip. Wala ka nang panahong mag-isip.”

How smooth.

Gigit’s confessional points out that that Nina doesn’t know how much he had lobbied for her not to be voted out, to the point that his allies now doubt his loyalty to the alliance.

Meanwhile, back at the hospital, John consumes the 1-liter dextrose that was being infused into his body.

Vern believes that John will be back within the 24 hour time limit. Of course you do, girl. No John, no more muscle group.

Cha on the other hand prefers that John doesn’t come back and just spend the remaining time recuperating. Sure. You would like that, wouldn’t you?

There is word racing around about who the SOLE Survivor is.
This barely three weeks into the hotter than hot reception of the Survivor by the Filipino viewing public. It has even attracted self declared solid fanatics of the rival network. In a way both Kapusos and Kapamilyas who are fans of the original franchise are one when watching this show.

Now here comes along a website with a spoiler among many, this time declaring *you*know*who as the winner.

Does this spoil the fun and enthusiasm of the viewers?

Obviously not.

If at all, it has actually attracted more attention, even from those who are not really survivor fans. The tongues are wagging, and every opinion is thrown into the gossip bowl.

How's that for publicity? As they say, there is no such thing as bad press. If GMA N&P uses what's between its ears, they will turn this around to their favor. As a matter of fact the tiny conspiracy theorist in me suspects that GMA may actually have a hand in this. If well and true that they do, then blindside the rest of us as there is actually a different winner, "Good Job" Is all I'd say.

Will I stop watching Survivor?

Hell no!

If indeed, *you*know*who won, how did he get there? Did he play fair? Who got blindsided? Did he get a tongue lashing from the jury? What kind of tactics did he use? How was his speech at the final tribal council?

It will take more than a simple spoiler to douse the flames

Episode 13 - Squiggle, Squirm and Wriggle

It is only the middle of the week but GMA decides to show the immunity challenge – a day early from its regular schedule on Thursdays and Tribal Council on Fridays. Could be because of something serious that is about to unfold.

In true Survivor fashion, the castaways are treated to a smorgasbord of worms, tarantulas and other creepy crawlers. One member from each tribe must beat the other ahead by completely eating and swallowing whatever is on the plate chosen by the roulette where the tiny creatures lie waiting to be chewed on. First team to score five points wins immunity.

Paolo spins the roulette. It stops on the tarantulas.

JC from Naak and Nikki from Jarakay go first. Ngeeek. Yan ba yung dalawang pinakamaselan sa season na ito? So anyways, the two start getting at it. Surprisingly, neither of the two shows any violent repulsion as they chew on the crunchy, hairy tarantulas. Even more surprising is that JC downs them all first (remember how he choked on the raw fish only a few days into this competition). He sticks out his tongue to Paolo to show an empty mouth. Paolo awards the point to Naak.

Naak: 1 – Jarakay: 0

Next up, Charisse and Kaye. This time, shiny black scorpions are on the menu. Competitive Cha puts two at the same time but Kaye finishes her scorpions first.

Naak: 2 – Jarakay: 0

Millipedes are now in plate number 3 for Vern and Kiko. They waste no time popping the smelly crawlers in their mouths. Vern closes her eyes to concentrate but chokes a few times as she chews on the squirming millipedes. Kiko on the other stays cool and relaxed as he munches on his. He eventually finishes them all up, first.

Naak: 3 – Jarakay : 0

Naak on a roll or what? I’m sure the growing number of fans are cheering this team on.

This time Rob and Nina take center stage with the woodworms squiggling on a plate. Rob makes a sign of the cross. They both start eating the fat and juicy white worms. Rob dances while chomping on the larva-like creatures. Sure he looks a bit cocky doing that but he can be as cocky as he likes as long as finishes the worms first. And he does.

Naak: 4 – Jarakay: 0

Paolo takes notice of the groove Naak is in and asks Gigit how this could be so. Gigit humbly replies that Naak’s previous losing streak is enough motivation for them to win this challenge. Paolo agrees, “So they are hungry literally and figuratively.”

Gigit and Cris now come forward to try and feast on some bamboo worms. We know that Cris has been actively participating performing quite well in the previous challenges. Will this be his first disappointing execution? Apparently not. The jeepney driver has beaten the web designer.

And Naak has beaten Jarakay for the first time.

Naak: 5 - Jarakay: 0.

Naak wins immunity. The tribe celebrates. Even some Jarakay members smile and applaud as they watch. Good game. Not as exciting as last weeks challenge but, good game.

At the Jarakay camp, Cha and Nina take a walk along the beach as they strategize. Cha asks for Nina’s confirmation that she is aligning herself with Cha’s group. Meanwhile, Jace and John do a little planning of their own. They zero in on Nina. However, their alliance is not solid about it. Considering Gigit’s earlier statement about his protest if the tribe votes Nina out, another castaway might get the boot. Namely Patani as she is considered to be the weakest in the group. So much for the bonfire laugh trips.

Meanwhile, breaks down as homesickness consumes her. This is probably augmented by today’s loss at the immunity challenge. Jace who first notices Nikki’s emotional episode also admits that life on the island is hard and that he sometimes want’s to quit, kaya lang hindi pwede.

Anong hindi pwede? Pwedeng pwede noh! Of course your tribemates will try to stop you, but Paolo won’t.

So now three female castaways are in danger of joining Chev and Emerson as this competition’s earliest kick-outs. Patani, Nikki and Nina. The tribe might just vote out Nikki as a favor, even.

Back at Naak, the tribe celebrates their first victory. Zita proceeds to make dinner. Rob places the immunity in a safe and dry place. He even kisses it. It looks like the serpentine visitor did work its magic on the tribe. Either that or the tribe really was starving – both for food and victory. For now, the tribe may rest assured that they will remain intact for the next few days.

They wonder who the first casualty at the Jarakay tribe will be. Kiko recalls how Marlon tried to make a deal with the women during the long swim fro the boat to the island. Marlon had promised to provide food in exchange for some floatation assistance. It just that when they had reached shallow waters, Marlon had weaseled himself out and swam ahead of the pack leaving the surprised women behind. Kiko was close by to witness it.

Back at the Jarakay camp,as everyone goes about their business, John lies down inside the makeshift shelter to rest. He is not feeling well. In fact he feels terribly ill. He starts getting delirious. He calls on Jace.

“Jace… Jace… Jace…”

Jace and the others respond. There is a commotion. It can be recalled how John expressed difficulty with the cold air and how the only warmth he gets is by the fire. Tsk tsk, so far in the show, we have not seen John with a shirt on so it looks like he didn’t bring one. This could be what has caused his illness.

The end credits roll with John strapped to a stretcher being hoisted up a yellow truck. Thai Paramdeics Team?

Hmmmm, so pwede din pala marating ng land vehicles ang isla.

Then the next scene shows the stretcher being rolled into what looks like an emergency room.

We hope John is ok.

Episode 12 - Nililigawan Ako Ng Mga Girls

It is day 7 in Koh Turatao.

As the anointed (or self proclaimed?) chef of Jarakay, Marlon works on the prize fish and suggests that they grill it as it may break apart if they stew it. Of course he puts in a few words regarding his expertise on the matter.

Meanwhile the girls start bonding in front of mounds of white rice as they wait for the fish to get done. They giggle in a huddle as Nina does an impression of Patani’s antics.

Somewhere else around camp, Gigit and Jace talk about money and happiness. Gigit is heard saying, “Money is not the goal anymore.”

At the same time, Cha and Nikki talk about strategies by the beach. Charisse points out during her confessional that if they can get the weaker members to form a group – they can be strong enough to dissuade the ‘muscle team’. Aha, so girl power is on the move after all – albeit silently and stealthily.

At the Naak camp, there is not much excitement going on either. Some members are out in the shallow waters, hunting for clams, crabs and other shellfish. Kiko has mentioned that this one of their favorite activities of the day.

Rob says that they are actually happy that Jarakay won the challenge because they hardly have any food there so they can have the fish.”Dito, punong puno ng sustansya ang kapaligiran.” Whatever floats your boat, big guy.

Anyways, the Naak members are actually happier about the luxury items than the fish. One of them has chosen to bring a mirror and it gets passed around from hand to hand as the curious castaways have been longing to know what they look like after seven life altering days on the island.

Zita is proud of how this team has gotten closer that despite the repeated losses during the challenges, they are still having fun and laughing as a group.

Back at Jarakay, the team waits for the grilled fish to be served. They feast on the tasty, fleshy meat served alongside clam soup and hot white rice. Patani is overwhelmed with the amount of food served and Charisse proudly says that they ate all the food up.

Nobody thought of smoking the fish and carefully allocating the meat for the succeeding days before the fish spoils, eh?

It has to be said though that no matter how big the prize fish were, Naak, seems to have a better feast with crabs and other edible sea creatures in their meals. I would personally choose crab over carp on any given day.

Then the Jarakay members after dinner start showing their luxury items. Nina is touched by the way the team reacts to her kid’s pictures. John chose the wrench that his father gave him to start his own independent shop. Marlon just a chose a picture of his girlfriend and Patani says of Marlon; “Pasinshyusu’ syang tao. Patani herself has chosen to bring a religious amulet, the one that she takes with her wherever she goes.

Whether it works or not, it could be the factor that gives her endless energy as she launches into her star struck mode. It becomes a riot again as the members roll with laughter. Everyone in camp enjoys her spiels and skits… a little too much, maybe.

Meanwhile back at the other tribe, Naak comes face to face with a snake. Most of the tribe wants to kill it but Kiko catches it with his hand wraps it around his fingers. “ Nasense ko yung takot nya”Kiko says. He sets it free the next day but not before freaking out the other members. He then sort of blesses the tribe’s flag with the snake.

Will it bring good luck to Naak and help them win the next immunity challenge? Hopefully so.

Jace and John, again talk about outing Nina as she is the only girl with the capability to create an alliance.

Marlon tells the other two, “nililigawan ako ng mga girls.” Haha, at least you get to say it in your lifetime.

Marlon is in two alliances but is leaning towards the girls at this time.

The tree of Providence.

At the Naak camp, Zita husks and cuts open an old looking coconut. She does it very well with a bolo too.

Some tribe members would rather eat something else but it is a hit as a beauty product.

Zita: Hot oil na lang ‘to

Kiko: Moisturizer na rin ‘to

Yup. Kasi kulang isang buong buko just for your hot oil. He he he.

Things get a little more serious at Jarakay camp as Gigit and Jace talk about the alliance.

Gigit threatens to protest if Nina is chosen by the alliance to be voted out should they lose the next immunity challenge. He would rather have Patani voted out as she seems to be the weakest link in the group.

John calmly explains the reason for choosing Nina. They agree to think about each other’s points of view. John explains that he doesn’t want to get blindsided if Nina works up enough power from the other tribe members who are not solid members of the “muscle team’. He now expresses concern over where Gigit’s loyalty lies - on the existing team or the new one. Marlon’s confession reveals that he has been sabotaging smaller, unnoticeable things about the gigit personally.

The Jarakay team gets treemail that talks about food. Hmmm, is there a new reward challenge? Charisse conceitedly talks about how the Naak team must be starved as they only get to eat grass. Yabang naman nito!

Anyways, the end credits show a teaser with John having a serious illness/ or is it bangungot? Coma? It is so serious that a lot of paramedics were involved. A female team, member's voice in the background says, "Better na bumigay ang katawanmo basta hindi bumigay ang utak mo."

tSk tsk, reminds me of the Oz Outback.

Episode 11 - Da Coconat Nat

It is becoming a familiar sight for Naak to go back to camp with a heavy heart. Will it be any different today?

The team is shown discussing the recent vote out and how Emerson’s eventually led to his own demise in the game. Then there is this question going around among the members:

Who voted for kaye?

Zita nonchalantly says: Pagbalik natin, malalaman natin.

Ganun?

The next day Cris is up early and leads the team in hunting for breakfast. Kiko explains that it is one the team’s favorite time of the day, wading in the water among the mangroves and hunting for ‘alahan’. I can’t help but remember that early morning is that time of the day for most people to …you know… do their number two. Ewww! I can imagine either Bhev or Kaye sceaming as they get out of the water after they spot a floater. Then Kiko screams with them as the floater floats over to him, Cris dying with laughter in the background.

Ok, back to reality. The reality show that is. Hehe.

So the team is back in a good mood as they listen to Zita talk about her husband and how she can hear herself screaming at him. “Tonyo! Hayup ka talaga!” Sure she looks ok now, but she is harboring this heavy guilt with last nights odd vote for Kaye.

Kaye doesn’t take it in any bad way as she playfully teases Zita, “Nay, ikaw nag-vote sa akin kagabi ano?”

Of course the Nanay of the team wouldn’t admit. At least not to them. In her confessional, she explains that she was confused, thinking that the others wanted Vhev out, but after that hug moment they had before the tribal council, she changed her mind and voted for Kaye instead.

As they day stretches on, Zita’s guilt starts to affect her as she stays away from group and stares at the water from a rock. Rob looks at her with concern.

Jarakay

Marlon gets treemail that reads: the coconut nut is agiant nut.. all the way to ..ishoot mo na ang ball.

Hmm so the producers chose to show the reward challenge early this week.

The clues to the challenge gets the team all worked up. Jace says that they will give their all – 150%. Nice one. But I’ve heard it all. 101% , 200%, 1000%, whatever. Just win the damn challenge. Or let the other team win for a change. Naak being the underdog is actually gaining them more fans. But then, this is Survivor, not PCSO.

Marlon is now shown talking about Kiko being bossy. And John, in his confessional seems to have changed his opinion of Marlon as Marlon is starting to prove to be an asset during challenges.

John: Ok si Marlon. Pero meron syang issues about Kiko (being bossy).

Well, he has never like the Bob Marley fan from day one clearly recalling how he has shot down other member’s ideas and suggestions. In Ragtop’s defense his decisions were actually sensible at that time. It is just the way he functions within a team that make’s him look like a dick. Now I am really curious what his dragonboat teammates say about him. Is he really like this in real life? I should look around the net for some answers.

John now talks to another tribe member about how he doesn’t g enough sleep taking care of the fire at night, making sure it doesn’t die out. Feeling ko hihinmatayin ako. Well sure. As a model, whose job is to look pretty all the time, beauty sleep is always the main priority...well after gym that is.

The next day, Jarakay tribe members cover themselves in warpaint in the form of charcoal soot as they prepare to go to the next reward challenge. "Spartans. Warriors" as Marlon puts it.

Reward challenge: Coconut Basketball

Paolo takes notice of the warpaint. “Are you bored at camp? What’s with the artwork?” Jarakay just beams back with pride.

Paolo proceeds to explain the challenge.

3 members, called the muscles are to hold down a basket hanging high in the air with a rope. One of them has to be female.

There are 4 shooters who will shoot husked coconuts into the opposing team’s basket until the ‘muscles’ tire and drop the basket.

As Naak is now two heads short of manpower, Patani and Nikki sit it out.

Jarakay Muscles: John, Gigit and Nina

Jarakay Shooters: Jace, Vern, Marlon and Cha

Naak Muscles: Cris, Kiko and Kaye

Naak Shooters: Rob, Zita, Vhev and JC. Naak fans are counting on JC in this challenge to break this team’s losing streak.

Survivors ready!...

Verns scores the frst shot, followed by Marlon, then Vern scores again as Jace shoots the fourth coconut into the basket. It is only then that Rob scores the first for Naak.

Naak looks in awe and resentment as Jarakay shoots in coconut after coconut into the basket. Jarakay now leads, 8 to 2. As the game progresses, Naak makes a couple more shots into the basket but so does Jarakay.

The score is now 11 – 4 in favor of Jarakay.

Then Zita scores.

The ‘muscles’ start to tire.

JC starts to get into his groove.

Then the teams run out of coconuts to shoot into the baskets. Paolo counts off as the players scramble to get the coconuts back in their pile. Cris and the other ‘muscles’ scream in pain as the baskets now hang low with the heavy coconuts. Jarakay pulls away with a comfortable ten point lead.

Then Naak drops the basket. Jarakay wins for the fifth time.

Naak watches as Jarakay receives two giant fish. Naak could use a good dose of protein but will have to be content with snails and other small fish for now.

A consolation for the losing team is when everyone gets their luxury items such as a cap for Rob, Driver shades for Cris, a terraband for JC.

Magpaseksi daw ba sa island? Eh they need to save all their strength for the remaining challenges. Baka gusto nya din maganda ang kanyang ExFOsure. Hahaha!

In the end credits, the girls make their alliance. About time. Para naman hindi lang wallflower, taga luto, taga hain, taga-entertain ang role nyo sa camp. Isn’t Charisse a high power executive at a telco? It’s time she used her brains to good use.

Episode 10 - The Second Tribal Council

In the previous episode, we witnessed one of the most exciting games on Philippine reality TV.. I have to say that I did hold my breath, many times during the game. It could have been just one single hold had it not been spliced by the countless commercial breaks. Nonetheless we are now expecting similarly interesting challenges in the future

Back to now, we see Jarakay celebrating their fourth victory with Patani on center stage. Yes, we Filipinos shall have humor in our lives. We are glad and quite thankful that Patani was included in this cast. Whenever she launches into her Star Struck hosting mode, we forget, at least for a moment, that this is a game that brings out the worst in a person. For now, we see Patani’s best. As Jace put it, “The best contribution she has done is make us laugh in a bonfire.”

Sure enough, the whole tribe is brought to tears with her laughter. Patani has earned the love her tribesmates.

Back at Naak, the all too familiar gloom hovers above the castaways as tribal council approaches. A tribe member will be voted out today.

During Kiko’s confessional, he painfully tries to justify the loss by the way Jace has broken their gentleman’s agreement. His eyes however show his regret for not anticipating such a move. This regret may hound him long after this show is over and I am sure this will again be brought up at the reunion show at the of the season.

As for the rest of Naak, it is evident that they have bonded very well. It is often the hardest of times that can be the cohesive element that brings people closer to each other – and many of us can relate to this kind of circumstance. When the tribe is shown enjoying their meal with some grilled fish ( more like guppies ,really) Mama Zita proudly talks about how good it feels “kapag walang hari-harian”.

It is slowly revealed though, how mama Zita knows little about how the other members of the tribe are playing the game. Emerson talks to Cris about who they should vote. He describes a member who does not bond well enough and not help enough around the camp. This member is also young enough to pursue a better future even after this game is over thus making it more justifiable to him/her vote out. Hmm, I have heard this many times over at the Big Brother House. Hanggang dito pa ba naman?

Unknown to Emerson though, Rob, who seems to be the one calling the shots has already spoken to Kaye and other members about his behavior during the last tribal council. Indeed this will cost Emerson dearly. His desperate moves are very transparent as he tries to become more useful to the tribe, helping with the chores and everything. Too late. “Namarkahan na siya”. And Emerson knows it.

Rob, the kuya of the team, level headedly explains that they need all the manpower they can get but what can they do? They lost and they will have to get rid of one of them. At one point, Mr. Team Leader tells the girls that he already loves them.

Arrrgghhhh…Cheesfest!

Seriously though, Naak is quite fortunate to have both him and Mama Zita to steer the tribe within the tides of sanity throughout these times of agonizing defeat. It is just that I’m surprised that Mama Zita asked Vhev if the tribe will be voting her out. She hugs Vhev as she talk about home and that she is joined this game for them. Vhev, touched, runs a stream of tears. “Akal niya ilalaglag naming siya.”

As A heavy-hearted Naak gets ready to go to Tribal Council, Rob tells the girls, “I’m going to hug you guys” but makes beso instead. Hahaha. Wala lang. Chancing.

Tribal Council

The tribe is immediately asked about their thought s on the recent shocking loss.

For the nth time, Kiko painfully recounts the episode and justifies it with the gentleman’s agreement. *sigh* Oo na. In the workplace and out in the real world for that matter, I will side on Kiko on any given day but in this game that aptly screams “PAUTAKAN, PAGALINAGN, PATATAGAN, there is only one word on how the 19 year-old muscle head won over the spirit warrior – BEAUTIFUL.

JC, then, also relates how he disliked John’s strategy during the challenge. Did anyone notice how the camera stayed a bit too long on JC, as if waiting for the tears to start rolling?

Paolo asks Rob why he didn’t think of steering to the left where the Naak mat was, to secure the win for his team. Rob defends himself that he wsa not aware that Marlon was still behind him.

Vhev on the othe hand expresses regret for letting her emotions getthe better of her right in the middle of an Immunity challenge.

Then JC starts to break down, as he talks about how painful it is going to be to vote another tribe member out. Emerson joins him as he describes the bonding and friendship that they had built from scratch, right down to getting by without food, to making a fire, to hunting for something to eat. The other members start crying too. Naak is not ready to send another tribe member home.

Yup Philippine TV ain’t complete without your recipe tearjerkers.

Time to vote

Just like the previous tribal council, Rob goes first, followed by Vhev and the rest of the tribe. Vhev and Emerson show their parchments to reveal that they have voted for each other. Duh! Then Zita shows that she has voted for Kaye.

Paolo tallies the votes.

First vote: Emerson

2^nd vote: Vhev

3^rd vote: Emerson

4^th vote: Kaye

Hala ka mama Zita. Hehehe. Kidding.

The next 3 votes were for Emerson who became the second person voted off the island

The credits roll as a teary Emerson pleads to the public to not judge him for how he played the game.

Don’t worry dude, you were voted out early because you were a threat, not because you were a wimp, which can be said for still a handful of those who remain on the island. You actually gained a few fans.

Episode 9 - The 2nd Immunity Challenge

Today the normally docile and yet cunning Filipino is the highlight of the day.

So it is not mud wrestling after all. The castaways are required to dig in a packed sand pit for a Thai pillow. Once they find the pillow, they are to carry the pillow to their team’s mat in order to secure a point. First team to secure 2 points wins.

Jace and Kiko kick off the match as they dig like crazy on the sand for the pillow. They realize that they should save their energy for a bigger task, preventing the other from running off with the pillow. Kiko suggests that they dig first then battle it out later.

After some digging, a part of the first pillow sticks out of the sand. Both men get on each other to secure it. The brawl gets interrupted several times as Jace’s pants kept loosening. The nice guy in Kiko obliges and allows the 19 year old some time to fix his pants. Bad move.

It provides Jace with a quick escape without much trouble as he sprints away with the pillow. Jarakay gets the point. Naak gets the shock. So does the audience as part of Jace’s crack shines through.

Marlon and Vern versus Cris and Zita enter a larger sand pit for round two.

An angry Naak tribe looks on. Kiko screams out, “Naak, mandaya na rin kayo!”

Yeah, sure. Too bad you didn’t think of it quick enough.

Zita finds the pillow. Marlon grabs it away from Zita and passes it on to Vern as he is tackled by Cris. Zita runs after Vern. She will not lose this round. Not without a fight. The two men join the women close to each other’s team mats. Cris makes one final pull as he touches the Naak mat with his toe. Naak wins this round. Cris weeps as a mixture of emotions overwhelm him.

In the final round, it is a Battle - Team Royale as everyone walks out into the largest sand pit except for Nina who will sit this one out.

It is really serious now. Adrenalin seeping out of their pores. The members of team Naak, still not recovered from Jace’s quick getaway, look at Jarakay with hungry eyes. Dreadlocks can’t wait to get back at Tattoo.

The girls find the pillow. The men fight it over. The rest of the team provide support

On the outside, it is Patani on Vhev. Then, Patani and JC. Now, Patani and Cris. Cris is Kicked in the gut.

On the inside, bodies and limbs are mangled around each other. John screams for everyone to stop claiming that his arm is about to get broken. “Nababalian na ako”.

Another strategy? Possibly so. Kaye checks out the arm and assures everyone that it is not in a twisted position.

The girls tackle Rob. Ok lang daw kiliti, sabi ni Paolo.

An angry John strips off his shorts. Trunks na lang. Kilitiin din kaya siya? Hehehe

In the middle of the brawl, a pause. The first blood is drawn. Out of Vern’s nose.

Is she hurt? Maybe so. But she’s probably had worse pain than this during her taekwondo matches.

The men start yapping about their positions. The former original Jarakay scolding, challenging and warning each other. So far it is still the men who are visibly playing this game.

Then a “sub-scene”. Vhev emotes on to Cris about Emerson. Errrr…not now gurl.

Close to the end of the round, a fed up Paolo starts disqualifying people, probably because of their unacceptable tactics. Jace is out first. Then Emerson (of course!). Then Cris and Gigit. Vhev and Charisse get at it. Paolo tells them to take a hike too.

Then out of nowhere, Rob grabs the pillow and starts to run off with it. Patani tries to block him but no go. Rob reaches the mat… but he is on the wrong mat. Marlon swoops in, grabbing the Rob, pillow and all and conveniently steps onto the mat. Did that win it for Jarakay?

Some protest.

Denied.

Again.

Jarakay wins for the fourth time. With it, immunity.

Kiko struggles for composure. Zita hugs Rob to comfort him. Naak will have to get rid of yet another member. Who will it be this time?

For now, Patani get’s the spotlight as Jarakay celebrates their victory.

“… Elemenation Drow. Wan melyun pesows por da grand drow!”… Ang gusto ko lang talaga, EXFOSURE!”

NYAHAHAHA! I LOVE IT!

Episode 8 - Talaga... Talagang...Talaga.

In this episode, Survivor fans get to sit back and just enjoy seeing the better, lighter side of the castaways.

The tribe members of Naak go hunting while Zita tries her luck with the fifth match to make a fire. She gets a little frustrated. “Hindi strike anywhere ang mga posporong ito.”

The frustration however is eclipsed by the excitement of seeing the sparks finally giving life to the first fire for the tribe.

Rice! Extra rice! Thoughts of soft hot rice race through their minds. The thought of finally getting to nourish their bodies with real food and ready themselves for the next challenge is overwhelming. The whole tribe is all smiles.

JC can finally eat. We saw how he threw up the raw shellfish a few nights back.

Zita gets teary eyed with joy. “Napapaiyak ako sa apoy… talaga…talagang… the best ito talaga.”

Talaga naman ha.

Meanwhile at the Jarakay camp, Jace gets busy talking to Marlon and Vern about alliances. He emphasizes how none of the girls are to know about the alliance.

Aha. So it is still the battle of the sexes over here. It is just that the female side of it is unaware.

Jace, then, talks to Vern about letting Cha into the existing alliance of four – namely, Jace, John, Marlon and Vern. Vern just allows a quiet, sour smile. Her disappointment seething through her teeth.

“Napapasok mo na eh. Wala na akong magagawa.” She tells Jace.

We also get to see John all over Nina for apparently removing the roof over the makeshift shelter that the boys had previously built. Nina had taken it off without consulting the entire tribe. This has sparked concern especially since the rains could suddenly come and soak the tribe members. I f anyone falls ill, they could suffer terrible losses during any of the challenges.

Could that be the reason that Jace and John want to take Nina out of the game? – To the point of losing immunity on purpose just to have it carried out? It is obviously because Nina is the only other female member of the tribe who has the capability to create another alliance that could topple the one that already exists.

Good point. It is a bit risky, though.

Patani giggles as she recounts how the argument ensues. Hahaha, there’s our favorite Patani. But we want more of her please!

While Jace strategizes with Vern (or is It Marlon?) on what to do with Nina, the editing shows Nina listening intently while restoring the makeshift roof. Did she hear the conversation that just took place?

Uh-oh.

Back at the Naak camp, the fun and frolicking continues as the the male tribe members make pretend flirt with each other. Kiko has his hands all over Rob’s back who seems to (pretend to) enjoy it.

Did Kiko just grope and pinch Rob’s butt? The editing quickly flashed to Emerson doing some macho dancer moves.

Some forum board poster hint that one male member of the tribe who just looks on may be jealous of what is going on.

Wanna join? Hehehe.

Kiko probably got tired of playing with Rob as he starts flirting with Vhev who nervously sits under the shade and just tries to play along.

Zita seems to enjoy the momentary peace among the tribe members and their getting along well. She comments on the flirting, “Si Kiko at si Bib, lab team talaga. Talaga… Talagang…talaga.

I should start counting how many times she can say “talaga” in a sentence.

So there. The castaways in both tribes seem docile to each other, for now.

Credits roll with the teams receiving their treemail for the next immunity challenge.

Mud wrestling seems to be the order of the day…tomorrow at least.

Episode 7 - Castaways Make Fire

Just as we had expected, Naak did not have to go empty handed after their third loss at the reward challenge. Paolo offered a mini challenge where Naak can win as many as 8 dry matchsticks for them to take home and start their own fire. The tribe members readily accepted.

They are to float on the water, holding on to nothing, each with a matchstick in his or her mouth. If they can maintain this for 15 minutes, they can take home the matches. They succeed in the challenge with the exception of Emerson and Rob who quit sometime around 6 minutes into the challenge. It can be remembered that Rob had trouble swimming and staying afloat on the first day of this competition.

Back at the Jarakay camp, the tribe arrives home long after the sun had gone down. Despite the strong winds and the unavailability of possible dry wood shavings, the excited castaways give fire making another try with their newly won flint. Like before, however, natures playful gusts of wind make it hard for the team.

Marlon comments that the team is doing it wrong and that they are wasting all that “sparkle”.

“Mauubos lang yung sparkle” says Marlon.

Ano yan, diyamante?

Back at the Naak tribe, Cris confronts Kiko about how he handled the boat part of the challenge. Kiko snaps back, “Pwede mag-request? Pwede tagalugin mo na lang?”

This guy is seriously a professional asshole and he is showing no signs of pulling on the stops. It is obvious that the team had failed miserably in navigating the boat through the floating lotuses, slowing the team and eventually causing them to lag behind Jarakay. But did he own up to the responsibility?

Nooo. He would rather get into a me, me , me , I am this, I am that , I’m better than all of you shit.

This person also feels the need to be condescending to other people like Cris, giving tirades like, “Ilang taon ka na? 30 ka na so definitely mas matagal ka na nagmamaneho ng? Ano? A Jeepney? Ako 3 years na akong dragon boat rower.”

“Wala akong maling tatanggapin.”
“Alam ko kung paano dalhin ang bangka. Nag champion na kami sa Hongkong….Ako ang pinaka-experienced sa bangka.”

What a load of crap! His head is so far up his ass that it is no wonder he had to have dreadlocks. To justify the fact that he is just a walking head of shit. That’s what they look like anyway.

That is why it is only right for Cris to let him know, “Alam mo pare, napapansin namin, sa iyo lahat ng experience. Kaya nga proud kami sa iyo.”

Hahaha. You go dude.

Our resident motivational speaker, Rob, though will not let this go on much longer. He steps in just in time to remind the two about team work, team dynamics, and that if they don’t work as a team, they all fall apart. The two cool down a little bit.

Nanay Zita just sits calmly in the dark trying to start a fire while listening to the two guys going at each other. “Gutom lang iyan.”

Buti pa si nanay Zita, trying to be productive despite all this.

Back at Jarakay’s, the tribe is not doing so well either. Marlon’s backseat driver attitude is irritating John and the other tribe mates as he barks orders for the others to get dry brush or to hit the flint in this or that direction, and so on. “Kilos na! Kilos na!”

Sarap supalpalin ng flint!

Eventually both teams in their respective tribes decide to sleep it off and get the fire started the next day. Again, no warm meal tonight.

The next day, Gigit starts making the fire again. The rest of the tribe gathers around, helping with the wood shavings and making sure that the fire keeps building up. Before long, they have a nice crackling fire going. Everyone is excited to have their first real cooked food on the island.

Jace experiences flashbacks of all the food he has ever known. Marlon steps in and proves his cooking prowess – with limited island resources and condiments if there ever was any. The tribe is happy.

Strategizing and alliance making takes a backseat today but Jace and John do talk a little bit about it while out in the woods. Jace is eventually seen making a deal with Marlon.

Huh?

Oh well, this is still a game.

The credits roll with Naak tribe members also gathered around a campfire. It looks like they have succeeded after all. The final scenes show the Kiko making pretend flirt and harassment on Rob.

Yikes!
